Outgoing Minnesota Gov Admits It Will Be “Uphill” Climb To Replace Him With Another Democrat

Outgoing politicians have a penchant for speaking candidly, and Minnesota’s departing Democrat Governor Mark Dayton did just that this weekend when asked about the prospect of another DFL candidate replacing him in 2018.

Dayton’s response? Voters are demanding change, and it will be an “uphill” climb for any Democrat to win the 2018 Minnesota Governor’s race.

The Twin Cities Pioneer Press reports“Dayton is not using much of his time right now to attend political events, he noted, and he has not endorsed any of the Democrats vying to replace him.”

“…But it may be tough for any Democrat, depending on the voters’ desires, he said.”

“‘As Hillary Clinton learned, it is difficult to succeed someone after eight years,’ the governor said. ‘And if the mood is what it was a year ago, which was ‘we want big change, we want something very different,’ in a general sense, then that is going to make it more uphill for a DFL successor.’”

Without a clear frontrunner, DFL candidates for Governor are running to the left, embracing wild policies like massive energy taxes and flip-flopping on positions to appeal to big-city activists.

Mark Dayton knows that these positions make it increasingly harder for Democrats to hold the governorship in 2018.
