Down 22-points in the polls and facing abandonment from Democrat politicians and Democrat-leaning groups, Ben Jealous’ campaign for Maryland governor is in crisis mode. The Associated Press is reporting today that after highly publicized missteps, the Jealous campaign is “struggling.”
The Associated Press writes that instead of gaining support, “Jealous has had to reverse course in recent weeks after some highly publicized missteps…the Jealous campaign has been struggling in recent weeks as the campaign heads into the homestretch.”
Specifically, Jealous faced condemnation last month for cursing at a reporter inquiring about his ties to socialism. Soon after, Jealous’ campaign was caught tweeting “vulgar language” about police officers. Then, prominent politicians like the state’s Democrat comptroller publicly refused to support Jealous’ campaign. Most recently, Jealous faced “widespread criticism” for trying to prevent a veteran statehouse reporter from participating in the upcoming gubernatorial debate. That brought “swift ridicule” upon Jealous’ campaign.
And just today, former two-term Maryland Governor Parris N. Glendening (D) told Maryland Matters that Ben Jealous’ campaign has become “an opportunity wasted” and said that, “He just doesn’t seem to have the fire. He doesn’t seem to have the focused campaign.”
