RGA Statement on the New Mexico Gubernatorial Primary

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Republican Governors Association issued the following statement on the outcome of today’s New Mexico gubernatorial primary election:

“Governor Susana Martinez is focused on moving New Mexico forward by diversifying the economy, balancing the budget and reforming education,” said RGA Chairman Chris Christie. “The results she has achieved provide a solid foundation for New Mexico’s future.  Governor Martinez eliminated the largest structural deficit in state history without raising taxes, enacted much-needed classroom reforms to provide children with a quality education and cut taxes 24 times to make New Mexico business friendly. The Republican Governors Association is proud to support Governor Martinez’s re-election campaign.”

“Governor Martinez is fighting every day to make the tough decisions to move New Mexico forward. Too much progress has been made to turn back now,” said RGA Executive Director Phil Cox. “Gary King, on the other hand, lacks any record of leadership. His tenure as attorney general has been marred by shortcoming and failure. Four years ago, New Mexico voters chose a new path under Governor Martinez, and they will continue moving New Mexico forward this November.”
