RGA Statement on Selection of Rep. Tom Price For HHS Secretary and Seema Verma as Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

WASHINGTON D.C. – The Republican Governors Association released the following statement regarding President-elect Donald Trump’s intent to nominate Congressman Tom Price as the new Secretary of Health and Human Services and Seema Verma as Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services:

“With a distinguished background as a physician and an admirable determination to reform healthcare, Congressman Tom Price is an outstanding selection by President-elect Trump to lead the Department of Health and Human Services,” said RGA Chairman Governor Scott Walker. “Dr. Price is a trusted leader in healthcare policy and will be a key partner with Republican governors to repeal Obamacare, replace it with an affordable solution that works for all Americans, empower block grants for states, and restore the doctor/patient relationship.”

“As a skillful and experienced leader in working with governors and states to reform healthcare, Seema Verma is a home-run pick to serve as the next Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services,” added Governor Walker. “Ms. Verma has worked directly with Republican governors to implement workable healthcare solutions in the states, including her role as the main architect of Governor Mitch Daniels and Governor Mike Pence’s successful Healthy Indiana Plan. She will serve our nation well in reforming Medicare and Medicaid to ensure those programs work properly for all Americans.”
