Republican Governors Association Executive Director Phil Cox issued the following statement in response to Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling’s announcement that he we will not run for governor as an independent:
“Bill Bolling’s decision makes this race a clear choice. Ken Cuccinelli is an experienced, policy-driven candidate, who will make job creation his top priority and will provide a clear vision and specific solutions for the challenges facing the Commonwealth. Meanwhile, former DNC Chairman and Clinton fundraiser Terry McAuliffe showed no interest in Virginia until running a failed campaign for governor four years ago, and his current campaign has drawn more major headlines for misrepresenting Virginia issues than any positive policy ideas of his own. Ken Cuccinelli is unquestionably the only candidate prepared to be governor.”
In late January, the Richmond Times-Dispatch/PolitiFact found that McAuliffe’s claims about Virginia failing to recruit his auto company, GreenTech Automative, were false. McAuliffe had used the GreenTech story repeatedly on the campaign trail since announcing his bid for governor.
