WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Republican Governors Association (RGA) released the following statement regarding North Carolina Democratic Governor Roy Cooper’s announcement that he will run for re-election:
“From vetoing teacher pay raises to promoting sanctuary cities, Governor Cooper is going to have a tough time selling his out-of-touch, liberal record to North Carolina voters,” said RGA Executive Director Dave Rexrode. “Since his narrow election in 2016, Governor Cooper’s time in office has been marred by extreme partisanship and a shocking lack of leadership. His mismanagement of the state’s hurricane response and energy permitting process have prompted allegations of broken laws and abuse of power from government watchdogs, and his partisan budget gridlock is causing real harm to North Carolinians – all to score political points. Governor Cooper is a failed leader who hasn’t earned a second term, and voters are going to ensure that he doesn’t get one.”
