Republican Governors Endorse Confirmation of Brooke Rollins to Serve as Secretary of Agriculture

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Republican governors today wrote to Senate Agriculture Chairman John Boozman and Ranking Member Amy Klobuchar to urge the swift confirmation of Secretary-designate Brooke Leslie Rollins to serve as the next Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The governors noted Rollins’ unparalleled record of constructive work with states across the nation. In part, the governors wrote:

“Our states’ farmers and ranchers, who provide our nation with food, fuel and fiber, deserve strong leadership at USDA, especially in the wake of recent natural disasters, animal disease outbreaks, inflation and economic uncertainty. Secretary-designate Rollins’ background in agriculture, as well as in handling related policies at the highest levels of state and federal government, make her exceptionally qualified to lead USDA at this critical juncture.

“Secretary-designate Rollins’ record as deputy general counsel and policy director for Texas Governor Rick Perry, where she handled agriculture policies among other issues, is only the beginning of her qualifications to work constructively with our states. In her fifteen years of leadership at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, she pioneered the advancement of state policy under the Tenth Amendment in bold and innovative ways that fundamentally shifted the relationship between the states and the federal government. Her constructive work with the states continued with her leadership at the White House as President Trump’s Director of the United States Domestic Policy Council — in which capacity many of us had the opportunity and the privilege to know and work with her. Finally, in her leadership at the America First Policy Institute, she has remained deeply engaged in state-level policy throughout the country.

“Simply put, there are few better-qualified than Secretary-designate Brooke Leslie Rollins to understand and engage state concerns, state priorities, and state action. Thanks to the work and experience of her robust and impressive public career, she possesses a deep appreciation for federal, state and local government working partnerships——especially on issues of the utmost importance to our shared rural communities.”
