Republican Governors Continue To Dominate Popularity Rankings

GOP governors across the country continue to set the bar high for results-driven leadership. And voters know it. The latest Morning Consult quarterly gubernatorial surveys show that the top ten most popular governors are again all Republicans.

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker received the highest approval rating at 73 percent, followed closely by Governor Larry Hogan of Maryland with a 70 percent rating and New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu with 65 percent of Granite Staters approving his performance. The three top-rated governors continue to receive sky-high marks from voters despite governing in states with legislatures controlled by Democrats.

Rounding out the top ten are Governors Phil Scott of Vermont, Mark Gordon of Wyoming, Doug Burgum of North Dakota, Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas, Greg Abbott of Texas, Bill Lee of Tennessee, and Ron DeSantis of Florida.

The newest GOP governors, elected in 2018 for the first time, have maintained strong numbers, with Ron DeSantis of Florida and Bill Lee of Tennessee both receiving 57 percent approval ratings. The three-point climb from the last quarter’s already strong ratings shows just how impressed voters are with their leadership.

Beyond the top 10, Republican governors vastly outstripped their Democratic counterparts, with an average net approval 17 points higher and a 14 point advantage among Independent voters.
