It’s been over 24 hours since The Cincinnati Enquirer first reported on Richard Cordray’s bizarre comments comparing Republicans to Nazis, but so far the Ohio Democrat gubernatorial candidate has refused to apologize for his reckless statements, only claiming he “regrets” how they were received. At a campaign event in Lima earlier this year that was captured on video obtained by the Enquirer, Cordray labeled local Republicans who did not speak out against Governor John Kasich’s policies “Vichy Republicans,” equating them to those who “collaborated with the Nazis.”
While Cordray has refused to make a public apology for his comments, he did find the time yesterday to further criticize Governor Kasich and Ohio legislators for their record on energy issues, appearing to signal his intent to continue attacking them on the campaign trail. To make matters worse, Cordray has also made no comment on his close political ally Maxine Waters’ calls for Trump administration officials to be publicly harassed because of their beliefs.
With Cordray showing no signs of remorse for his offensive statements, he clearly doesn’t seem to believe he owes voters an apology for using a Nazi comparison on those he disagrees with. Cordray’s alarming lack of judgement further shows how unfit he is to lead Ohio.
