Ohio Dem Gov Candidate Richard Cordray Makes Shameful Comparison of Republicans to Nazis

Ohio Democrat gubernatorial candidate Richard Cordray is facing new controversy this morning after video was released showing him comparing Ohio Republicans to Nazi collaborators. The Cincinnati Enquirer first reported that Cordray, while speaking to supporters in Lima earlier this year, made the bizarre comments calling local Republicans who refused to speak up against Governor John Kasich’s policies “Vichy Republicans,” comparing them to those who “collaborated with the Nazis.”

While Cordray has been critical of “ugly” rhetoric from his opponents in the past, that clearly hasn’t stopped him from stooping to Nazi comparisons toward those he disagrees with politically. Cordray’s irresponsible and bizarre comparison of Republicans to Nazis further shows that he does not have the temperament or character to serve in Ohio’s highest office.

The Washington Free Beacon reports:

“Richard Cordray labeled Ohio Republicans as ‘Vichy Republicans,’ a reference to Nazi collaborators in France during World War II.

Cordray, the Democratic candidate for governor, made the comment during an event at the Allen County Democratic Party Women’s Club on March 8 in Lima, Ohio, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Cordray was complaining about how the ‘philosophy’ of Ohio Republican Gov. John Kasich and the Republican state legislature didn’t bring people together to solve problems. He went on to reference the fact that the overwhelming majority of local officials in Ohio are Republicans and complained they haven’t spoken out against Kasich and the state legislature.

He compared the local Republicans to Nazi collaborators using the term ‘Vichy Republicans.’

‘Somebody said to me last month that they’re ‘Vichy Republicans,’ which I didn’t fully understand,” Cordray said. ‘I guess that’s ‘Vichy France’ during World War II, the ones who went over and collaborated with the Nazis.’”
