Malloy Protégé Luke Bronin Would Continue Failed Policies That Have Hurt Connecticut

As reported earlier this morning, Dan Malloy protégé Luke Bronin is forming an exploratory campaign to run for Connecticut governor. After spending years driving the city of Hartford further into fiscal chaos, toward the brink of bankruptcy, Bronin now wants a promotion to Connecticut’s highest office so he can continue the same failed policies that have hurt Connecticut and doomed its fiscal future.

A committed protégé and former staffer for Dan Malloy, Bronin has followed the failed governor’s playbook in Hartford, pursuing a reckless tax-and-spend agenda that has driven the city to a “junk” bond rating while putting it at “high risk” for bankruptcy. Under Bronin’s disastrous leadership, Hartford’s fiscal status has declined even further than the state as a whole, which has been plagued for years by routine credit downgrades under Malloy.

Bronin’s decision also breaks a promise he made to his constituents that he would finish his term as mayor. In an interview with WFSB-TV in 2015, Bronin unequivocally committed to serving his entire elected term and claimed that he hoped to pursue reelection, stating  “you cannot turn a city around in four years.” But now Bronin is already looking for an exit in order to pursue his political ambitions, abandoning Hartford only two years into his term.

Luke Bronin has spent his short time in office driving Hartford further into fiscal ruin and now he wants to continue those policies in Connecticut as governor. Bronin has already proven that he’s committed to backing Dan Malloy’s failed agenda and that he has no problem breaking his promises to voters. Connecticut deserves better than Dan Malloy’s protégé as its next governor.
