“Level the Playing Field” Set Goal at $20M, Has Raised Only $200K
Jerry Brown Draws MoveOn.org Co-Founder as Primary Opponent
“Not only is this union-led effort sputtering,
but now Jerry Brown is being challenged for the Democratic nomination.”
– Tim Murtaugh, Republican Governors Association
The Democratic attack organization “Level the Playing Field” reports a paltry $200,000 raised in their vitriolic involvement in the California Republican gubernatorial primary, despite a publicly-stated goal of $20 million. The actual cash figure represents a mere 1-percent of their target. Supported largely by labor unions, “Level the Playing Field” and other liberal groups announced with great fanfare earlier this year that they intended to spend as much as $40 million savaging Republicans.
“Clearly no one is excited about Jerry Brown’s candidacy,” said Tim Murtaugh, spokesman for the Republican Governors Association. “Not only is this union-led effort sputtering, but now Jerry Brown is being challenged for the Democratic nomination.”
Yesterday, MoveOn.org co-founder Peter Schurman announced he would seek the Democratic nomination for governor.
“If Big Labor really cared about the truth, they’d ask Jerry Brown to level with the people of California by releasing his records from his previous time as governor,” Murtaugh concluded.
