Former Rhode Island Dem Gov Lincoln Chafee Slams Gina Raimondo, Endorses Her Primary Opponent

Rhode Island Democrat Governor Gina Raimondo’s growing problems with her own party worsened yesterday with news that her Democrat predecessor will endorse her primary opponent. WPRI-TV reports that Governor Lincoln Chafee announced his support for Matt Brown while slamming Raimondo for “underfunding programs and services on which hundreds of thousands of Rhode Islanders depend.”

Chafee has been a harsh critic of Raimondo’s administration. His endorsement of Brown will only add to Raimondo’s base problems with signs of growing dissatisfaction among Rhode Island Democrats with Raimondo’s performance.

While Raimondo and her administration remain mired in multiple scandals while they try to mislead voters on the state of Rhode Island’s economy, her mismanagement as governor continues to fuel doubts about her ability to win a second term this November.
