With her poll numbers sliding amid numerous scandals surrounding her administration, Rhode Island Democrat Governor Gina Raimondo has once again resorted to misleading voters about her record on the economy. The Providence Journal reports that this weekend, while speaking at Rhode Island’s Democrat convention, Raimondo claimed that Rhode Island’s employment is “well above the national average.” The only problem: It’s not.
According to the most recent monthly jobs numbers from May, Rhode Island’s unemployment rate stands at 4.4 percent while the national rate currently sits at 3.8 percent. Ironically in the same speech, Raimondo took time to call her Democrat primary opponent Matt Brown a liar, all while it was she who tried to promote a false statement about her record.
This isn’t the first time Raimondo has tried to mislead the public about her state’s economic performance since she took office, last year her staff was also caught pushing phony job numbers to bolster her image. Clearly Raimondo is worried enough about her state’s poor economy during her term to spread false information to save her re-election hopes. Unfortunately for her, she’s not fooling anyone.
