When he ran for governor, Cooper laid out 31 promises to the people of North Carolina on issues from taxes to healthcare. But, as a new report from WRAL details, “Cooper is in danger of failing on a majority of his promises” as the 2020 election approaches.
According to reporting from WRAL, in the three years since taking office, Cooper has succeeded in fulfilling only 7 of the 31 promises he made to North Carolinians. By failing to deliver on over 75% of his promises, Cooper is a “ways off” – to put it mildly – from the pledge he made to voters, due in large part to self-inflicted wounds. As governor, Cooper has lurched steadily leftward, embracing extreme liberal positions, and opting for partisan gridlock instead of working across the aisle to get things done.
In addition to failing to fulfill most of his promises, Cooper has blatantly flip-flopped on others. He broke his promise to avoid using higher taxes to pay for his agenda by reversing planned tax cuts for job creators. He also promised to usher in more transparency by providing public records in a more timely fashion, but his failure to do so was made evident in this cringeworthy interview.
“Governor Cooper may have campaigned as a consensus-builder, but he has governed as a partisan politician who will say or do anything to get elected,” said RGA Communications Director Amelia Chassé Alcivar. “Governor Gridlock’s record shows his promises are just hot air and political posturing. As he campaigns for reelection, North Carolinians won’t be fooled again.”
