Colorado Dem Gov Primary Turns Ugly As Debates Turn Into Major Attacks

Following the collapse of the “Clean Campaign Pledge,” the Colorado Democrat gubernatorial primary is quickly getting ugly.

Last week’s debate quickly descended into “fireworks” as the candidates sparred over a recent ad from a super PAC supporting Cary Kennedy that attacked Jared Polis and Mike Johnston on their records. After Kennedy defended the ad, both Polis and Johnston accused her of engaging in a “pattern” of not keeping her “promises.”

The rhetoric only grew more negative at last night’s debate. This time, Polis slammed Kennedy for being a “lobbyist” that has never “been in the real world” and chastised Johnston for his limited appeal beyond the Democrat base. In response, Johnston attacked Polis for using his enormous wealth to buy elections. At one point, things got so heated that an exasperated Donna Lynne was forced to call out her opponents for not being “adults,” arguing “this bickering is insane!”

Watch here:

With their primary turning negative, Colorado Democrats will inevitably be left with a weakened nominee in the general election.
