One of Charlie Crist’s biggest backers, Speaker Nancy Pelosi has once again thrown him a lifeline in his Florida primary race against Nikki Fried by extending proxy voting in the U.S. House another 6 weeks.

According to the House Office of the Clerk, Crist has assigned a proxy to vote on his behalf 22 times and currently has an active proxy letter filed. Back in April, it was revealed Crist was the sixth-most of any member of the U.S. House to vote by proxy. His official office spokesperson immediately explained Crist was abusing the proxy voting system so he could campaign for governor. The admission from Crist’s own staff resulted in an ethics complaint that is still pending.

“Charlie Crist’s flagrant violation of ethics rules and complete disrespect for his constituents is just another reason Floridians can’t trust him in elected office,” said RGA spokesperson Joanna Rodriguez. “Crist made it clear he has absolutely no intention of doing his taxpayer-funded day job in Washington or following the rules when his office bragged about his abuse of the proxy voting rules. It’s no surprise he got his friend Nancy Pelosi to extend it for him again.”
