WASHINGTON, D.C. – Republican Governors Association Executive Director Phil Cox issued the following statement today regarding Madison School Board Member Mary Burke’s entry into the race for Wisconsin governor:
“Following a decisive recall election loss last year and several failed attempts to recruit other current officeholders for the job, Wisconsin Democrats have settled on millionaire Mary Burke as their sacrificial lamb in the 2014 governor’s race. A former appointee of the disastrous Jim Doyle administration, Burke’s candidacy is sure to rely on the tax-and-spend model of governing that plagued Wisconsin for years before Governor Scott Walker stepped in to clean up the mess that Burke helped create. Since taking office, Walker has eliminated a $3.6 billion dollar deficit, proposed over $650 million in tax cuts and created thousands of private sector jobs, all while turning a former deficit into a $625 million budget surplus. His record says it all: Governor Walker is moving Wisconsin forward. Mary Burke’s support for the failed policies of the past would only unravel that hard-earned progress.”
