Another top Democrat gubernatorial recruit is taking a pass on running – this time in New Hampshire. Colin Van Ostern, who lost the governor’s race in 2016 to GOP Governor Chris Sununu, has decided not to run again this year, handing Democrats a huge recruiting failure.
Van Ostern’s decision comes just one day after a new poll showed him trailing Governor Sununu by double digits in a potential rematch. The same poll also showed Governor Sununu’s approval rating rising to 61 percent, with strong support across the political spectrum in New Hampshire.
This is just the latest setback for New Hampshire Democrats, who continue to face a tough challenge in this year’s gubernatorial election.
