As Failed Governor Dan Malloy and state lawmakers continue their budget talks while Connecticut grapples with a multibillion-dollar budget deficit, the potential Democrat candidates to succeed Malloy are MIA. Despite their expressed interest in continuing Dan Malloy’s disastrous policies and inheriting his fiscal mess, both Kevin Lembo and Nancy Wyman have stayed as far away as possible from the budget process.
After announcing his interest in running months ago, Malloy ally Kevin Lembo appears to have gone into hiding, making no public statements about the budget, despite his vital role in state financial matters as Comptroller. Nancy Wyman, Malloy’s lieutenant governor, has also given zero indication of where she stands on any proposals currently being discussed in the budget, while saying she may announce a run as soon as the budget is resolved.
If Lembo and Wyman hope to lead Connecticut, it is completely unacceptable for them to remain silent as the state grapples with a budgetary crisis that will impact Connecticut families for years to come. Connecticut deserves a governor who will not hide from political challenges, but face them head on. Unfortunately, Kevin Lembo and Nancy Wyman would rather run away from them.
