With One Day Until Dem Primary, Ralph Northam Runs Out The Clock On Pipelines

Virginia Democrats will go to the polls tomorrow with no clue where Ralph Northam stands on the crucial issue of energy pipeline construction in the Commonwealth, as he hides his beliefs from voters in hopes of running out of the clock. Despite repeated calls by members of his own party to do so, Northam still won’t give a yes or no answer on the matter, with the Roanoke Times reporting over the weekend that Northam “has not come out for or against the proposed pipelines.”

At each of the Democrats’ debates and forums, Northam dodged and ducked any questions on the pipelines, reciting the same scripted non-answer that he continues to stick by. Despite Northam’s unwillingness to answer pipeline questions, neither his primary opponent nor Virginia’s Democrat governor have had any trouble letting voters know where they stand, with Tom Perriello viciously opposing them, while Terry McAuliffe calls them a “huge job creator.”

Ralph Northam’s refusal to give Virginians a straight answer on pipelines before the primary shows exactly what kind of governor he would be, one who runs away from politically inconvenient issues to protect his own political interests over the concerns of those he would govern. Virginia deserves better from its next chief executive.
