Wisconsin Democrats continue to struggle to recruit a candidate for governor – this time showing they can hardly even recruit sub-par candidates. Just weeks after Congressman Ron Kind surprised Democrats and announced that he would not enter the race, State Senator Tim Cullen – who fled to Illinois during the Act 10 debate in Wisconsin – announced today that he also will not run, leaving Democrats with a 25-year old failed congressional candidate from California as their only declared gubernatorial hopeful:
The Associated Press reports:
“Former Democratic state Sen. Tim Cullen says he won’t run for governor after all.
Cullen told reporters Wednesday that there has been a ‘huge challenge’ in raising money…
Recent college graduate and Madison resident Bob Harlow is the only Democrat who has officially announced a run.”
Now that Cullen and Kind have both taken a pass on running for governor, Wisconsin Democrats’ best hope lies with a 25-year who recently lost a congressional primary in California. With a depleted bench leaving them without viable candidates, Democrats in the Badger State increasingly see their chances to win the governorship diminished.
