Will Ralph Northam Duck Pipeline Questions Again At Tonight’s Debate?

At tonight’s Virginia Democrat debate in Roanoke, failed lieutenant governor Ralph Northam will have another opportunity to give Virginians an answer to a simple question: does he support gas pipeline construction in Virginia? Northam has had two opportunities this week to give voters his clear position on the issue and both times he has ducked and dodged the topic. Unfortunately for Northam, the questions aren’t going away any time soon.

The Washington Post reports:

“Perriello noted at the recent Fairfax debate that it was only after he took a stand against the pipelines that Northam wrote to the state DEQ urging a thorough environmental review.

When Perriello pressed Northam on whether he had consulted with Dominion before sending the letter, Northam demurred, saying he was “not going to stand here on the witness stand.”

In an Arlington forum this week, Perriello urged Northam to repudiate Dominion contributions. Northam countered that it was wrong to single out one donor and said there should be comprehensive campaign finance reform.

This troubles some Democrats, especially those in the new wave of activists looking to make up for the party’s poor showing in elections last fall.”

While governor Terry McAuliffe has called pipeline construction a “huge job creator” and Tom Perriello has been unequivocal in opposing the projects, Ralph Northam has hid behind half-answers and obfuscation. But with Virginians growing more tired by the day of his shadiness, it’s time for Ralph Northam to stop hiding and clearly say if he will support Virginia pipeline construction or not.
