Whitmer Whiffs Again

Thanks to Gretchen Whitmer’s antibusiness policies, that crushed the state’s economy, Michigan businesses are choosing to invest elsewhere, increasingly in states led by Republican governors.

Following Ford’s announcement of its $11.4 billion investment in Tennessee, Stellantis is set to announce it will build a large battery plant in Indiana. Once again picking a GOP-led state over Whitmer.

As The Detroit News puts it:

“The investment would mean Michigan has failed to win any battery plants from the transatlantic automaker’s first round of gigafactory investments. An automotive gold rush for megasites making EVs, batteries and related parts has fueled announcements mostly in states and provinces other than the home of the city that put America on wheels — even from its hometown automakers.”

“Michigan families are missing out on high-paying jobs that will help build the future from its hometown automakers thanks to Gretchen Whitmer’s anti-business policies,” said RGA Spokesman Chris Gustafson. “Whitmer has spent her first term driving Michigan’s economy into the ground while states led by Republican governors continue to see investments flow in from Michigan’s Big Three.”

Jeep maker Stellantis NV is expected to announce plans Tuesday to locate its second North American electric-vehicle battery manufacturing plant in Kokomo, Indiana, three sources familiar with the situation told The Detroit News, beating out two sites in Michigan.

The investment would mean Michigan has failed to win any battery plants from the transatlantic automaker’s first round of gigafactory investments. An automotive gold rush for megasites making EVs, batteries and related parts has fueled announcements mostly in states and provinces other than the home of the city that put America on wheels — even from its hometown automakers.
