Gretchen Whitmer wants you to know that she needs more time to break her campaign promise, and never really meant that she would fix the damn roads in her first term.
It’s no surprise Whitmer is trying to distance herself from the roads, as road and bridge conditions are worsening with only 25% of state and 20% of local roads rated as “good”.
“Every Michigan motorist knows that Gretchen Whitmer has failed to ‘fix the damn roads’ and no backtracking on her promise is going to fill the potholes that continue to pile up,” said RGA Spokesman Chris Gustafson. “Michigan’s roads continue to rank near the bottom in the nation and Whitmer has no plan to fix them. The time for new leadership is now.”

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer won election four years ago on a promise to “fix the damn roads,” but as she asks voters to re-elect her this fall, the first-term Democrat says she’ll need more time to fulfill that pledge.
I’ve “never suggested that in one term we could fix decades of underinvestment,” Whitmer told Bridge Michigan in an interview at the Mackinac Policy Conference.
