When Is a Tax Hike, Not a Tax Hike? When Ted Strickland Says So.

Days after his Howard Deanesque rant on why he is losing his re-election bid and hours after he stood by his rant, Ted Strickland came further unhinged, claiming that a tax hike was not, in fact, a tax hike.

“Ted Strickland is losing all credibility,” said RGA spokesman Chris Schrimpf. “First, he accuses Republicans of not liking America, then rather than apologizing, he stands by his remarks.  Now he has the audacity to say that he didn’t increase Ohioans’ tax burden.”

Strickland’s campaign has issued a demand that Ohio television stations stop airing RGA’s ad http://tedfailedohio.com/ that points out that last year Strickland signed into law a more than 800 million dollar tax increase, a fact that has been widely reported.  But according to Strickland’s letter, “there was not any 800 million dollar tax increase.” Strickland’s logic is that a tax increase is not a tax increase if it just eliminates previously enacted income tax cuts for Ohioans.

“Strickland’s desperate logic to hide his tax increase is enough to make any head spin,” added Schrimpf.  “No wonder he’s going on rants about Republicans not liking America.”
