Washington Post: Gov. Larry Hogan Has 24 Times More Money Than Ben Jealous In Maryland Governor’s Race

Is Ben Jealous’ campaign for Maryland governor running out of steam? Based on new fundraising totals, it appears that way.

After numerous campaign scandals, including Jealous cursing at a reporter for inquiring about his views on socialism, Jealous is struggling to raise the campaign cash necessary to compete. The Washington Post reports that Hogan now has 24 times as much money as Ben Jealous in cash on hand, with just ten weeks before the election. It’s “raising questions about whether the former NAACP president will have enough resources to compete.”

UMBC professor Donald Norris notes that he’s “never seen a statewide Democratic candidate with this kind of a deficit against a Republican candidate . . . Ever.”

“You can’t do it,” Norris says, in reference to Jealous’ ability to get his message out, especially to voters in the D.C. suburbs.

It’s clear that donors and national Democrats have weighed Ben Jealous’ chances, and realized there’s not much that can be done to save his flailing gubernatorial campaign.
