Former Democrat congresswoman Gwen Graham is announcing her run for Florida governor today, but she continues to demonstrate that she is just another Washington politician who says one thing but does another.
After talking a big game on open records, stating that “Florida families deserve full transparency,” Graham failed to release her congressional records before leaving office in December, in a desperate move to hide her record in Washington from Florida voters.
When pushed to release her congressional records through Freedom of Information Act requests – records that would give voters valuable insight into how she conducted her congressional office – Graham sidestepped the issue, and avoided answering any tough questions. She instead punted the issue down the road, hoping voters wouldn’t notice.
Graham’s efforts to hide her congressional records proves she can’t be trusted to lead the state as governor. Floridians deserved to know if Graham used her position in government to benefit any of her families’ companies or affiliated businesses – and she can only prove that by immediately releasing these congressional records and communications. If Graham falsely claims she can’t release them now that her congressional office is shut down, Florida voters should hold her accountable at the ballot box.
