Despite running in a Democrat primary in Virginia, failed former Congressman Tom Perriello seems to think writing in the Los Angeles Times is the best way to reach Virginia voters. The west-coast newspaper published an op-ed this morning from Perriello, where he explained his vote for Obamacare in 2010, despite his constituents fierce opposition:
“In 2010, as a freshman congressman, I stared down the same threats that many Republican representatives face today, and I had to balance what I thought was right versus what I knew was politically advantageous. I was a Democrat representing a red Virginia district. Back then, a vote backing the Affordable Care Act — which Republican strategists had already branded “Obamacare” — meant facing millions of dollars in right-wing attack ads and almost certain defeat at the polls that fall.
My critics were right: I did lose my seat. But I never regretted my vote. Not once”
Instead of explaining his controversial position to Virginia voters, 67 percent of whom favor repealing Obamacare, Perriello is trying to build his national profile to west coast liberals. Unfortunately for Virginians, it appears Tom Perriello is more concerned with pleasing far-left voters in deep-blue California than explaining his unpopular views to the people of the Commonwealth.
