VIDEO: Democrat Fred Hubbell Says He Would “Take A Serious Look At” Raising Taxes On Iowa Families

Democrat candidate Fred Hubbell is doubling down on his support for tax hikes on Iowa families. Earlier this year, Republican Governor Kim Reynolds took historic action to grow Iowa’s economy and allow families to keep more of their hard earned money, signing into law the largest tax cut in state history.

Fred Hubbell opposed Kim Reynolds’ tax cuts, and is once again signaling that he would reverse them if elected. Speaking to the Des Moines Register editorial board, Hubbell was directly asked whether he would raise taxes by repealing the Reynolds tax cuts. Hubbell responded by saying that he’s “gonna have to take a serious look at that.” Watch here.

DMR: Would you reverse any of the tax cuts that have happened recently? In effect raise taxes?

Hubbell: If we’re gonna change our state and be fiscally responsible stewards of taxpayers’ money, then if you are referring to that new tax law, we’re gonna have to take a look at that…we’re gonna have to take a serious look at that.

Hubbell’s tax hike rhetoric echoes comments he made in June when he promised to “peel back” the tax cuts passed by Governor Reynolds.

By repeatedly pledging to consider tax hikes, Fred Hubbell has made it clear that he would force Iowa families to pay more. Hubbell is too out-of-touch to lead.
