Transparency Hypocrisy

Gretchen Whitmer’s office would like you to think that Whitmer is a champion of government transparency, recently stating that the governor “believes that state government must be open, transparent and accountable to taxpayers…”

Based on previous promises made by Whitmer, you might be inclined to believe the line.

The truth however is that Whitmer’s administration has been one of the least transparent in the nation, consistently stonewalling open records requests, as recently reported by the Detroit Free Press.

“Voters deserve to know what’s going on in their government, but step by step, Gretchen Whitmer has consistently stonewalled the public on yet another broken campaign promise,” said RGA Spokesman Chris Gustafson. “Whitmer’s rampant transparency hypocrisy is especially troublesome considering the countless scandals and secret vacations the governor has accrued in just three years. With Spring underway, the time for sunshine in Lansing is now.”
