Democrat Sally Yates announced this morning she will not be running for governor in Georgia, despite efforts by national Democrats begging her run. Yates is just the latest addition to a long list of top-tier Democrats across the country refusing to run for governor in 2018.
The New Yorker reports:
“Yates said she has ruled out running for governor of Georgia in 2018…
Democrats in Georgia are trying to draft Yates to run for governor next year. She said, “I am totally ruling out the governor’s race. I am not running for governor.”
Georgia Democrats admit they were strongly pushing the former acting attorney general to run, even praising her as a “hometown hero.” Without Yates in the race, Democrats in Georgia continue to struggle with a weak bench, further diminishing their chances in 2018.
