Top Iowa Dem Gov Candidate Forced To Backpedal After Declaring Iowa Unions “Corrupt”

Insurance heir and Iowa Democratic candidate for governor Fred Hubbell exposed just how ill-prepared he is for the political spotlight this week, with his campaign quickly trying to backpedal his remarks calling some Iowa unions “corrupt.”

Unions hold significant political power among the left in Iowa, and Hubbell’s recently been snubbed by many of them who’ve backed his primary opponents with millions in campaign cash. At a recent Democratic gala, labor members also held “silver spoons” up to protest Hubbell’s wealthy upbringing.

Earlier this week, Hubbell reportedly told the Daily Iowan that, “there are corrupt labor unions,” clear evidence that Hubbell is frustrated with his level of labor support. Facing backlash, Hubbell was forced to backtrack in a long-winded social media post.

Hubbell’s “corrupt labor” incident continues to expose just how ill-prepared he is for a statewide run, especially against a popular incumbent GOP Governor whose presided over the lowest unemployment rate in seventeen years. Fred Hubbell simply is not ready for primetime.
