Terry McAuliffe Struggles To Defend Ralph Northam’s Campaign On MSNBC

Things have gotten so bad for Democrat Ralph Northam’s struggling gubernatorial campaign in Virginia that even his top surrogate is having trouble defending him. Yesterday on MSNBC, Democrat Governor Terry McAuliffe was asked by host Chuck Todd about Latino Victory Fund’s disgusting ad attacking Ed Gillespie supporters and Virginia voters, which was pulled earlier this week for its offensive content. Not only did McAuliffe admit the ad “wasn’t fair,” but he repeated false talking points designed to distance Northam’s campaign that were discredited by a FOX 5 report on Thursday:

CHUCK TODD: “An ad you know, a Latino Group ran an ad what showed a pickup truck, confederate flag with a Gillespie bumper sticker, was that fair?”

TERRY MCAULIFFE: No it wasn’t fair and I said immediately they shouldn’t have run the ad, it was a Latino group who ran the ad, it was not Ralph Northam’s campaign.”

Things got even worse when McAuliffe was pressed about recent national headlines involving the Democratic National Committee’s collusion with Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential primaries. McAuliffe called the news “very bad timing” for Northam’s campaign, as it faces rapidly eroding support from progressive groups such as Democracy For America and Think Progress, who denounced him for flip-flopping on sanctuary cities earlier this week.

CHUCK TODD: “…The allegation that Donna Brazile made, that the DNC basically was in the tank, one way or another and we can discuss how much, for Hillary Clinton throughout the primary season, fair charge?”

TERRY MCAULIFFE:I don’t know the specifics of the actual agreement, it’s regrettable that Donna thought this was the time she should come out with this complaint. I mean God love the Democratic Party but we…”

CHUCK TODD: “Is it pretty bad timing for Tuesday?”

TERRY MCAULIFFE: Oh very bad timing.”

Even his top surrogate, who made his career as a Democrat spin-doctor, is failing at damage control for the Northam campaign’s disasters. After weeks of controversies, flip-flops, and tightening poll numbers, Northam’s campaign finds itself flailing less than 72 hours from Election Day.
