Tennessee GOP Governor Bill Lee Opens the Volunteer State for Business

GOP Governor Bill Lee of Tennessee is following through on his promise to bring business experience to the governor’s office.

By instituting important business-friendly policies, Governor Bill Lee has managed to make the Volunteer State nationally competitive, incentivizing major businesses to relocate to Tennessee. One of these businesses is the California-based Mitsubishi – the auto company recently announced plans to uproot its North American headquarters to Franklin, TN as part of a total $18.25 million investment.

In a recent interview with the Nashville Business Journal, Governor Lee said, “…there’s a lot of talk about movement from technology regions in other parts of the country, specifically California, into our state,” Lee said Tuesday. “There’s a reason for that: It’s because we are building the technology workforce, we are building the infrastructure for technology, but we also just have a way of life here that is attractive to people and they’re figuring it out more and more.”

Mitsubishi is not the only California-based company to relocate to Tennessee. Recently, other companies like Pilot, Harrow Health, and ICEE have also chosen to make the move from California’s high tax rates to business-friendly Tennessee. In acknowledgment of the mass exodus from his state, Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom said, “I get it. We’re not going to be the cheapest place to do business.”

By instituting pro-growth policies and low tax rates, Governor Lee is making Tennessee competitive and ensuring that the Volunteer state sees the economic results of GOP leadership.
