When he first ran for governor in 2010, then-candidate Dan Malloy gave Connecticut voters lofty promises to drive job creation if elected. In 2010 the Danbury News-Timesreported on his “plan for job creation:”
“Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy laid out his “blueprint” Tuesday for economic development and job creation in the state. “I am presenting an extensive blueprint for turning this state around,” said Malloy, who was standing before the Department of Labor’s Connecticut Works office on West Street with his running mate, state Comptroller Nancy Wyman.”
But after almost seven years with Malloy in office, his failed promises have proven to be nothing but empty campaign rhetoric. Here are the results of almost two terms worth of disastrous policies in Malloy’s Connecticut:
The state lost jobs in 2016, lagging behind the national economy.
Employment remains below pre-recession levels.
Key businesses like GE and Bristol Myers-Squib have left Connecticut.
CNBC ranks Connecticut as the 7th worst state to do business.
The Cato Institute ranked Connecticut 45th for economic freedom.
Despite campaigning on a platform of job growth and prosperity, Dan Malloy has put Connecticut in worse shape than he found it with a stagnant economy that continues to fall further behind the rest of the country. Come November 2018, Connecticut needs a new direction.
