On Tax Day, Colorado Dem Gov Candidates Make Tax Hikes Their “Most Important” Priority

As Americans struggle through another Tax Day, Colorado’s Democrat gubernatorial candidates, Mike Johnston, Jared Polis, and Cary Kennedy are promising to make taxpayers even pay more.

In 2013, nearly two-thirds of Colorado voters rejected a ballot measure from Mike Johnston to raise taxes an eye-popping $1 billion. Following this overwhelming result, even Colorado Democrat Governor John Hickenlooper was forced to concede that policymakers shouldn’t raise taxes.

But, Johnston, Kennedy, and Polis have all refused to abandon their tax-hiking crusades.

Recently, Johnston released a plan promising to make taxpayers pay more by repealing parts of the Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR), even arguing that increasing taxes is “the most important thing the next governor has to do.”

Like Johnston, Kennedy has also based her plans on the “premise” of repealing TABOR and raising taxes.

Although Polis refuses to admit how he would fund his high-cost spending proposals, he has repeatedly indicated he would raise taxes to do so.

Colorado voters have already made it clear that they can’t afford tax hikes, but the Democrat gubernatorial candidates stubbornly refuse to abandon their big government agendas. On this Tax Day, Coloradans deserve better.
