Steve Bullock Teams Up With Hillary Clinton, Fellow Dem Govs To Destroy Montana Coal Jobs

Montana’s Democrat Governor Steve Bullock continues to solidify his reputation as a governor who says one thing, but does another. Bullock claims to stand up for coal jobs in Montana, but his actions tell a different story. Over the span of a month, Bullock was scheduled to attend fundraisers with two anti-coal Democrat Governors, and then remained silent as the standard-bearer for his party, Hillary Clinton, made it a point to say as President, she will “put coal miners and coal companies out of business.”

This week, Bullock was scheduled to attend a ski-trip fundraiser with Washington’s Democrat Governor Jay Inslee in Big Sky. Inslee is being encouraged to sign legislation passed by the Washington legislature, which would accelerate the closure of two coal-fired power plants at Colstrip. That action would kill coal jobs by phasing out coal-powered electricity in Montana.

“The Washington Legislature late Friday approved a bill to help Washington’s largest electric utility finance the eventual closure of two coal-fired power plants at Colstrip. The Sierra Club and other forces in Washington have been pushing to phase out the use of coal-fired power in the state, because of its impact on climate change. The Washington House approved the bill Friday 92-5, sending it to Washington Gov. Jay Inslee for his signature. A spokeswoman for Inslee said his policy team will review it before he decides whether to sign it – but Inslee is on record as a supporter of phasing out coal-fired power in Washington.” (Mike Dennison, “Coal-Power Phase-Out Bills Approved By WA, OR Legislatures,” MTN News, 3/4/2016)

In February, Governor Bullock attended a fundraiser in Washington D.C, with Virginia’s Democrat Governor Terry McAuliffe:

“Over 60 people attended a fundraiser for Montana Gov. Steve Bullock last night at the new Penn Quarter offices of Forbes-Tate. Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe was the night’s special guest.” (Isaac Arnsdorf, “Politico Influence,” POLITICO, 2/19/2016)

McAuliffe vetoed pro-coal legislation last week, further hurting the coal industry in his state:

“Gov. Terry McAuliffe vetoed legislation Friday extending coal-related tax credits, sparking strong rebukes from Republican lawmakers who accused him of acting like a “big baby” and hurting the state’s suffering coal industry for petty political reasons.” (Alex Suderman, “McAuliffe Vetoes Coal Tax Credit Bill, Sparks GOP Backlash,” Associated Press, 3/11/2016)

During the CNN Democrat Town Hall on Sunday evening, Hillary Clinton boasted that if she were elected President, she would “put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business.” Instead of standing up for Montana coal jobs, Steve Bullock has been silent on Hillary’s comments.

HILLARY CLINTON: “We’re going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business.”
