State Journal-Register Endorses Governor Bruce Rauner For Re-Election: “Give Gov. Rauner another term”

The State Journal-Register has endorsed Republican Governor Bruce Rauner for re-election, saying that he “remains the best candidate to push for the reforms Illinois needs.”

In contrast, the SJ-R slams Democrat J.B. Pritzker for “his unwillingness to share details of his major initiatives, and his textbook example of trying to buy an elected office” from Rod Blagojevich. Pritzker has “repeatedly refuses to define” the details of his preferred tax rates, and “It’s insulting to voters that he won’t offer such critical specifics.”

The SJ-R also called out Pritzker for his numerous scandals, including his “scheme to defraud” taxpayers by removing the toilets from his second mansion for a massive tax break. His scheme was “a fundamentally wrong action” that “left other people — who did not have the resources of a billionaire — to make up that difference.”

“Rauner can serve as a check against one-party rule. He remains the best candidate to push for the reforms Illinois needs,” concludes the SJ-R. “Give Gov. Rauner another term.”
