A week after becoming the Democrat nominee for South Carolina’s gubernatorial race, Liberal Politician James Smith still refuses to answer questions surrounding his alleged illegal business practices while giving no response to a call to release ten years of his tax returns and financial information for his company.
Over a month ago, it was reported that Smith may have improperly used his disabled veteran status to turn his business, the Conagree Group, into a pass-through for government contracts to non-veteran businesses. These practices, commonly known as “rent-a-vet” schemes, have become “a multi-million dollar problem in the federal government and sometimes results in criminal prosecutions.”
Smith’s refusal to come clean about his questionable business practices raises serious concerns about his candidacy. Smith should immediately release the last ten years of his tax returns, along with his company’s relevant financial information, to provide transparency for voters. If he continues to refuse to do so, these questions will continue to plague his campaign.
