Does Richard Cordray Support Elizabeth Warren’s Vote Against Ending The Shutdown?

As he continues to face negative comparisons to Hillary Clinton’s failed candidacy, Washington D.C. Bureaucrat Richard Cordray is now putting himself at odds with his party’s liberal base. After Senate Democrats shut down the government earlier this week, Cordray called the three-day shutdown’s effects “heartless.” But hours later his top supporter, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, voted against a bill to reopen the government, putting Cordray’s statement at odds with her actions.

This raises a serious question for Cordray: does he believe that Warren, who has been his number one supporter after serving as the architect for his position at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, was “heartless” to stop our government from working? Cordray also condemned the fact that the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) was used for “political football” during the shutdown, tweeting that he was glad it was reauthorized following the Senate’s successful bill to reopen the government. But in voting against that bill, Warren also voted against reauthorizing CHIP. Does Cordray think she was wrong to play “political football” with that as well?

For years, Elizabeth Warren has been Richard Cordray’s most ardent supporter, strongly backing his appointment to the CFPB and pledging to “make sure he has the resources he needs” in fundraising appeals for his gubernatorial campaign. But now, with Warren voting against reopening the government, forcing employees to “work with no pay,” will Cordray speak up and condemn her “heartless” actions, or will he remain silent to keep his top backer in Washington, D.C. happy?
