RGA Statement on the Maine Gubernatorial Primary

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Republican Governors Association issued the following statement on the Maine primary:

“As governors, our job is to run our states as effectively as possible with our eyes on the next generation, and that’s exactly what Governor Paul LePage has done in Maine,” said RGA Chairman Chris Christie. “In his first term, Governor LePage oversaw the creation of over 15,000 jobs, brought Maine’s unemployment to its lowest level since 2008, and focused on lifting Mainers by giving those in poverty a hand up, not a handout. Governor LePage is putting Mainers first, and his strong record is a show of significant progress in a state that needed serious leadership. The Republican Governors Association is proud to support Governor LePage’s re-election.”

“Maine is back on solid footing thanks to Governor LePage, but Mike Michaud hasn’t seemed to notice,” said RGA Executive Director Phil Cox. “The liberal policies he’s promoting are the same policies that failed Maine in the past:  higher taxes, more regulation, and bigger, more intrusive government. Now is a time to move forward, not back. Maine can’t afford to elect a governor like Mike Michaud.”
