RGA Statement on the Georgia Gubernatorial Primary

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Republican Governors Association issued the following statement on the outcome of tonight’s Georgia gubernatorial primary election:

“Governor Deal has forged a clear path forward for his state, leading Georgia to over 235,000 new jobs, its lowest unemployment rate since 2008 and an ever-growing rainy day fund,” said RGA Chairman Chris Christie. “Governor Deal’s strong, focused leadership has ignited job creation and new business development in Georgia, boosting the state’s competitiveness and economic vitality. The Republican Governors Association is proud to support Governor Deal’s re-election campaign.”

“Governor Deal’s record of success in Georgia is rooted in meaningful reform which ensures that a limited state government works for the people it serves,” said RGA Executive Director Phil Cox. “If left to a true-blue liberal like Jason Carter, the progress Georgia has experienced under the red state model would give way to bigger government, higher taxes, more unemployment, increased dependence on Washington and the instability that comes with it. Carter’s agenda is out of line with Georgia’s priorities, and in November, voters will again opt for more jobs, more opportunity and more prosperity under Governor Deal’s leadership.”
