RGA Statement on Terry McAuliffe Submitting Qualifying Petitions for Governor

Republican Governors Association Executive Director Phil Cox issued the following statement regarding former Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe submitting signatures to run for governor of Virginia:

“Despite failing to earn the trust of his fellow Democrats and win his Party’s primary in his 2009 gubernatorial campaign, former national Democratic Party Chairman Terry McAuliffe made it official today that he will again run for governor of Virginia as the most unprepared and overtly partisan nominee in memory.

From failing to name a single cabinet position in the governor’s office to misrepresenting Virginia’s economic development efforts, Chairman McAuliffe has displayed a stunning lack of depth on the issues and willingness to mislead the voters. Simply put, Chairman McAuliffe is unfit to be governor.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has proven to be a principled leader with the type of experience Virginians are looking for in their next governor. Ken is prepared to govern on day one and will make jobs and pocketbook issues his top priority as governor.”

A Quinnipiac University poll released this morning shows a net six point swing on the gubernatorial ballot towards Ken Cuccinelli since November and Cuccinelli enjoys a +18 net job approval rating. Cuccinelli’s net approval rating matches his best approval rating since taking office, as measured by Quinnipiac.

Additionally, by a 2:1 ratio, Virginia voters think Cuccinelli has the right experience to be governor. Meanwhile, just 28 percent of Virginia voters believe McAuliffe has the right experience to be governor while 23 percent of voters think he does not.
