The Republican Governors Association announced that it has raised a record $13.5 million in conjunction with its Annual Gala being held today. At the same time last year, the RGA had raised $10.2 million, on its way to raising $30 million for the year. The RGA entered 2010 with $25 million cash-on-hand.
“This record participation demonstrates that more and more people are excited about our party and recognize governors will lead our comeback,” said RGA Chairman Haley Barbour. “We’re off to a good start, but we still have a lot of work to do between now and the November elections.”
“Republicans saw the difference the RGA made in Virginia and New Jersey last year and are ready to replicate those efforts nationwide this year,” said RGA Gala Chairman Bob McDonnell. “Successful gubernatorial campaigns not only have major policy implications within each state, but they also have tremendous positive impact on other statewide and down-ballot races.”
