RGA Releases New Video: “Career Politician Mike Cooney”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – RGA Right Direction PAC, an organization supported by the Republican Governors Association (RGA), today released a video exposing Montana Lt. Governor and Democratic gubernatorial nominee Mike Cooney as an out-of-touch career politician whose decades in office have saddled Montanans with higher costs and more red tape.

The video illustrates just how long Cooney has been collecting a taxpayer-funded paycheck by showing a snapshot of America when he was first elected to the Montana House of Representatives in 1976 – Happy Days was the number one show on television, the Ford Pinto was the hot car, and gas cost just 59 cents per gallon.

Over the next four decades, Montana taxpayers paid out over $1 million in salary and benefits to Cooney as he occupied various political and bureaucratic roles. Cooney “repaid” Montanans by consistently advocating and voting for higher taxes and fees for families and businesses, and pushing for more burdensome regulations on small businesses.

“As working families and small businesses are struggling to recover and rebuild, Mike Cooney’s decades-long record of pushing for more taxes, fees, and government red tape is the opposite of what Montana needs to move forward,” said RGA Communications Director Amelia Chassé Alcivar. “Montanans deserve a leader who knows how to create jobs and get people back to work, not a career politician like Mike Cooney who has been failing to deliver for 44 years.”
