RGA Releases New TV Ad In Montana Governor’s Race Targeting Mike Cooney

WASHINGTON, D.C. – RGA Right Direction PAC, an organization supported by the Republican Governors Association (RGA), today released a new television ad in the Montana governor’s race targeting career politician Mike Cooney’s threat to impose his ethically questionable, tax-and-spend ways on Montanans if elected governor.

The ad, titled “Wake Up Montana,” highlights Cooney’s record of raising taxes, growing government, and repeatedly breaking Montana’s ethics and campaign finance laws. Cooney’s campaign has twice been found in violation of Montana law during his bid for governor, and just this week he was caught accepting over-the-limit donations from the Democratic Governors Association after receiving the maximum fine in July for using his public office for political gain

In the 44 years Cooney has collected a paycheck funded by taxpayers, he has returned the favor by advocating for over $850 million in tax and fee increases. In his campaign for governor he’s even proposed a new tax bracket, saying Montanans can “afford it.”

“A career spent as a liberal politician has left Mike Cooney completely out of touch with everyday Montanans,” said RGA Deputy Communications Director Mike Demkiw. “Even amid a public health crisis, Cooney is trying to increase the burden on hardworking Montana families and he’s proven he is willing to break the law to win an election. Montanans simply can’t trust or afford Mike Cooney.”

Script for “Wake Up Montana”:

MAN: You know what I need?

WOMAN: What’s that?

MAN: A dishonest, tax raising, career politician… like Mike Cooney.

MAN: Cooney broke the law and made more than a million off taxpayers.

MAN: Plus, I need my taxes raised!

WOMAN: You really need your coffee.

WOMAN: Better?

MAN: Yeah, on second thought I’ll pass on the whole Mike Cooney thing.
