RGA Releases First Television Ad In Louisiana Governor’s Race, “Left Behind”

WASHINGTON, DC – RGA Right Direction PAC, an organization supported by the Republican Governors Association (RGA), today released its first television ad in the Louisiana governor’s race, highlighting Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards’ failed stewardship of the state’s economy.

The 30-second spot, titled “Left Behind,” contrasts Edwards’ record of tax hikes and anti-business policies with the booming national economy under President Donald Trump. As national job creation and employment levels have reached historic highs, Louisiana has lagged behind.

Shortly after taking office in 2016, Edwards pushed for the largest tax hike in Louisiana history. Despite misleading rhetoric from his administration, the Associated Press has reported that, “[t]axes are higher today than they were when Edwards took office,” and the New Orleans Times-Picayune noted that the sales tax increase Edwards championed “tends to hurt poor people the most.”

The ad also highlights Louisiana’s recent ranking as the worst state in the nation for jobs, and the fact that tens of thousands of residents have left the state and the labor force has decreased since Edwards took office. The Bayou State’s poor fiscal performance under Edwards has impacted quality of life for citizens across the state. As The Advocate recently reported, “Louisiana is now three for three in being recognized as the worst state based on health care, education, infrastructure, crime and other quality-of-life measures” in U.S. News & World Report’s annual “Best States” survey.

“A diminishing workforce with residents fleeing the state, worst-in-the-nation jobs rankings, and the biggest tax increase in state history – this is Louisiana under Governor John Bel Edwards,” said RGA Communications Director Amelia Chassé Alcivar. “Thanks to John Bel Edwards’ tax-and-spend liberal agenda, Louisiana has been left behind as our nation prospers. It’s time for new leadership.”

The ad will run beginning July 9 on broadcast and cable stations statewide.

“Left Behind” Script:

President Trump turned America’s economy around.

Cutting taxes. Creating jobs.

President Trump: “We have created 5.3 million new jobs.”

While American workers get ahead, Louisiana gets left behind.

Democrat John Bel Edwards raised taxes, just the opposite of Trump.

And now we pay.

Ranked dead last.

The worst state for jobs.

No wonder our workers are leaving. Tens of thousands. Gone.

Higher taxes. Lost jobs. That’s John Bel Edwards.
