RGA Raises $45.1 Million In 2015, Has $25.4 Million Cash On Hand

WASHINGTON D.C. – The Republican Governors Association announced today $45.1 million raised in 2015. This figure includes $20.7 million raised during the final six months of 2015.  The RGA begins the year with over $25.4 million in the bank across all entities, making it one of the largest cash on hand war chests of any major political committee on either side. The RGA paid off all 2014 debt and carried no debt into 2016.

“Thanks to the strong leadership by each of our nation’s 31 Republican governors, the RGA has a substantial foundation to strengthen and expand our majority in 2016 and beyond,” said RGA Chair Governor Susana Martinez. “Voters recognize that Republican governors are doers, achieving results for taxpayers, reining in spending, promoting efficient government and standing up to Washington’s overreach. Because of their hard work, the RGA has the resources to elect and re-elect Republican governors who will make the tough choices needed to drive growth in their states.”

“Americans know that an investment in the RGA is an investment in a better future for our country, which is why the RGA had a tremendous off year,” said RGA Executive Director Paul Bennecke. “With these financial resources, the RGA is well-prepared for the 12 gubernatorial elections this year where we will defend our incumbent governors and go on offense in many states to expand our majority. Our outstanding fundraising efforts and highly efficient spending ensure that the RGA can compete against the Left and Labor Unions’ plan to spend millions on electing anti-business, pro-big government Democrats to state-level offices.”

During the 2015 election year, the RGA maintained its majority of 31 governors, won the Kentucky governorship for only the third time since World War II and re-elected a GOP incumbent in Mississippi.  With Democrats defending five open gubernatorial seats in 2016, while Republicans only face one, the RGA is in prime position to add to its ranks. This fundraising success gives Republicans the ability to win in long-held Democrat states and re-elect our incumbents.

In the last ten years, 44 of the 50 states have had a Republican governor, and the 6 that have not are all up in 2016.
