RGA Launches Website Introducing Montana Voters To The Real Mike Cooney

Website Exposes Cooney As Far-Left, Ethically-Challenged Career Politician

WASHINGTON, D.C. – RGA Right Direction PAC, an organization supported by the Republican Governors Association (RGA), today released a new website, MeetMikeCooney.com, exposing Montana Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mike Cooney as a liberal career politician with a record of tax-and-spend policies and ethics violations.

The website hosts a video recounting Cooney’s history an out-of-touch career politician whose decades in office have saddled Montanans with higher costs and more red tape, and highlights key facts that prove Cooney is simply wrong for Montana, including:

  • In the 44 years since he entered government, Mike Cooney collected more than $1 million in taxpayer-funded paychecks, continuing to this day.
  • Cooney has voted to raise more than $100 million in taxes and fees on hardworking Montanans, including fees on getting married, occupational and business licenses, hunters, vehicle registration, hospital beds, and much, much more.
  • Cooney is facing pending accusations of violating the public trust and breaking the law when he used state resources to advance his own political agenda, prompting fellow Democrat Whitney Williams to say, “after over 40 years in government, Mike Cooney should know right from wrong.”
  • Cooney was previously investigated in 2002 for using government resources for political purposes when a campaign donor list and other campaign materials were found on a government computer in his taxpayer-funded office.

“Despite four decades of taking their money, Mike Cooney has done little to distinguish himself to Montana voters,” said RGA Communications Director Amelia Chassé Alcivar. “Cooney’s out-of-touch, liberal record and his pattern of campaigning on the taxpayer dime is simply wrong for Montana. Montanans need new leadership – not another career politician.”
